Why use organic mascara?
Some of the ingredients often found in non-organic mascara formulations can be considered harmful or can create allergies. These include: parabens, synthetic and coal tar dyes, aluminum powder, and various other preservatives such as formaldehyde, thimerosal, or imidazolidunyl urea.
Parabens are endocrine disruptors and are linked to certain cancers, such as breast cancer. They can also disrupt hormone and reproductive health and irritate the skin. Names of prabens to look out for : ethylparaben, propylparaben and butylparaben.
Synthetic and coal tar dyes are useful to create the mascara’s color, but are carcinogenic and considered toxic and can cause allergies. Usually, syhtetic and coal dyes are not called “sythetic dyes” or “coal dyes” in the ingredient list, so you’ll have to look out for their names. They are found as : FD&C or D&C with a color code such as FD&C Red 2, or D&C Blue 1, or as aminphenol, diaminodenzene, phenylenediamine.

Our certified organic mascaras are made in Europe under strict European Organic Cosmetic rules. They do not contain parabens, butylated hyroxytoluene (BHT), butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA,) retinyl palmitate, phthalates, synthetic and coal dyes, and other ingredients often found in non-organic cosmetics.
